Day Four: Journey from Rolla, Missouri to Oklahoma City
Good morning, fellow travelers! Today marks the fourth day of my Route 66 adventure. I left Rolla, Missouri, at 7 AM with my sights set on Oklahoma City.
My day started with a quick photo session at the antique shop adjacent to my hotel. Despite its worn-down appearance, it’s still a charming stop worth visiting, though it was closed when I was there.

Once I hit the road, I transitioned from the interstate to Route 66, enjoying the nostalgic charm of the historic route. The moment I left the hustle and bustle of the interstate, the atmosphere changed. Route 66 greeted me with its iconic Americana vibe, the kind that takes you back in time with every mile. The road was flanked by vintage signs, old gas stations, and diners that looked like they hadn’t changed since the 1950s. It’s easy to see why this road is so beloved by travelers seeking a slice of history.
Uranus Fudge Factory
My first notable stop was the famous Uranus Fudge Factory. This isn’t just any fudge shop—it’s a quirky little spot brimming with fun attractions. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by larger-than-life statues and playful signs that made it clear this place doesn’t take itself too seriously. Inside, the shelves were lined with an impressive array of fudge flavours, each one more tempting than the last. The staff, dressed in humorous uniforms, added to the lighthearted atmosphere, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. I couldn’t resist sampling a few pieces of their renowned fudge, each bite a sweet reminder of why this stop is a favorite among Route 66 tourists.

After indulging in some treats and snapping a few photos of the whimsical surroundings, I took a moment to explore the other quirky attractions on the premises. From the miniature museum filled with oddities to the quirky gift shop, there was no shortage of things to see and do. The whole place felt like a delightful time capsule, preserving the fun and whimsy that make road trips along Route 66 so special.
With my sweet tooth satisfied and my camera full of memories, I continued on Route 66 for a while, soaking in the scenic views and the nostalgic roadside attractions. The gentle curves of the road and the open landscape made for a relaxing drive. Eventually, I merged back onto I-44, leaving behind the quaint charm of Route 66 but carrying the spirit of the adventure with me.
The Munger Moss Hotel in Lebanon, Missouri
Nestled in the heart of Lebanon, Missouri, the Munger Moss Hotel stands as a cherished icon of Route 66. Established in 1946, this historic motel has been a welcoming haven for travelers seeking an authentic slice of Americana. Its vintage neon sign, glowing brightly against the night sky, beckons road-weary adventurers to rest and relive the golden era of American road trips.
The Munger Moss Hotel is more than just a place to sleep—it’s a journey back in time. Each room is uniquely decorated with period-appropriate furnishings, evoking the charm and nostalgia of the 1940s and 50s. The warm hospitality of the owners, Bob and Ramona Lehman, adds a personal touch, making guests feel like they’re part of the extended Munger Moss family.

Conveniently located along Route 66, the Munger Moss Hotel offers easy access to local attractions, dining, and shopping, making it an ideal stop for those exploring the historic Mother Road. Whether you’re a history buff, a Route 66 enthusiast, or simply looking for a cozy and memorable stay, the Munger Moss Hotel promises an experience rich in tradition and character.
Redmon’d’s Candy Store
My next stop was the Redmon’s Candy Store in Phillipsburg, Missouri. This clean, well-maintained store offers a variety of sweets and several restrooms for travellers. After refueling both my vehicle and myself, I resumed my journey on I-44.

Will Rogers Turnpike
Crossing into Missouri, I-44 becomes the Will Rogers Turnpike. I made a pit stop at a service plaza for coffee and grabbed a freshly made sandwich for dinner later.
The weather was perfect for travel, and I arrived at the Best Western Saddleback Inn at 5 PM. The staff here are always friendly, and the hotel is impeccably clean. Having stayed here many times during previous tours across the United States, it’s comforting to see that it remains a popular and reliable choice.
Today’s journey covered 697 km, and now it’s time to rest and recharge for another day of adventure. Until tomorrow, safe travels!
